Ketu in the 7th House
The seventh house is the sign directly opposite the lagna, setting in the west at birth; in Lipta's whole-sign houses the whole of that sign is the house. It governs marriage and partnerships: the spouse, business partners, contracts, agreements, and the public one meets face to face. It is a kendra, and also one of the two maraka houses used in technical longevity analysis. Ketu is the south lunar node, a point and not a planet in the physical sense, traditionally linked with detachment, intuition, separation and spiritual release. When Ketu is in the seventh, Rahu is always on the lagna, so the reading is the same self and other axis seen from the opposite end.

What it traditionally signifies
Ketu in the seventh house is traditionally read as a detached or unconventional approach to partnership. Commentators describe someone who may feel a certain distance within close relationships, who values a partner's inner life over outward status, or who is drawn to people with a spiritual, introspective or unusual quality. Some older texts speak of partnerships that begin or change suddenly, and of a person who does not cling to agreements once they have served their purpose. The constructive reading is a relationship built on freedom rather than possession, and a capacity to give a partner room.
The less comfortable face is a sense that partnership never quite meets one's expectation, a reluctance to commit fully, or a habit of keeping part of oneself in reserve. Rahu on the lagna then turns appetite inward and forward: a strong drive to define oneself, to be noticed, to experiment with identity, and to pursue personal ambition. The common modern reading treats the axis as a pull between self-making and partnership, where the familiar ground is relationship and the growth lies in becoming oneself. This is a description of emphasis, not of any marriage.
The sign on the seventh and the condition of its lord carry much of the reading, along with Venus, the natural significator of partnership, and, for many readers, Jupiter in a woman's chart by older convention. Where nodal aspects are used, a seventh-house Ketu would aspect the eleventh, first and third houses; whether the nodes aspect at all is a point on which the authorities disagree.
What it does not mean
Ketu in the seventh house does not predict divorce, separation, a late marriage, no marriage, or anything about a spouse's health or character. It is not a dosha to be cleared and it is not a reason to delay or hurry any decision. Marriage is read from the seventh house, its lord, Venus, the navamsha and the dasha together, and one node in the seventh is a single input. Rahu on the lagna is not a judgement on the person's nature.
Questions it raises
- 01Which sign is on the seventh house, and where is the seventh lord?
- 02What is the condition of Venus, and of the seventh house in the navamsha?
- 03Is any planet sitting with Ketu in the seventh or with Rahu on the lagna?
- 04Is the birth time reliable enough to fix the lagna, and so the seventh, with confidence?
- 05Is a Ketu or Rahu dasha running, or the seventh lord's period?
In practice
In practice a seventh-house Ketu is read with the seventh lord, Venus and the navamsha, and then Rahu on the lagna is weighed against the lagna lord. The dasha shows when partnership themes are in the foreground, and transits of the nodes over the natal axis, about every nine years for each end, are noted. Lipta readings cite each placement and date behind a sentence, so a line about partnership can be traced to its source.
