Ketu in Leo
Leo is the Sun's sign: a fixed fire sign of authority, dignity, self-expression and the centre of the stage. Ketu, the south lunar node, has no light and no body; it is the point opposite Rahu on the Moon's path, so whenever Ketu is in Leo, Rahu is in Aquarius. Tradition gives Ketu the themes of letting go, inner perception and a detachment from what the world rewards. Putting that node in the sign of the king produces one of the more paradoxical combinations in the chart, and the texts read it with interest rather than alarm.

What it traditionally signifies
The first fact a reader notices is that Leo opens with Magha, one of the three nakshatras ruled by Ketu itself (with Ashwini and Mula). Magha is the throne of the ancestors, the pitris, and it carries themes of lineage, inherited dignity and tradition. Ketu in Magha is therefore read as unusually at home: a person who carries a family or cultural inheritance quietly, often without wanting public credit for it. The opening degrees of Leo are also a gandanta junction, at the meeting of Cancer's water and Leo's fire.
More broadly, Ketu in Leo is traditionally read as a reserved relationship with recognition. Leadership may come naturally and still feel uninteresting; praise may be received politely and forgotten. The constructive face is a person who can hold authority without ego, or who creates for the sake of the work. The less comfortable face is self-effacement, a difficulty claiming one's place, or a distance from the father or from figures of authority, since the Sun signifies both. Rahu in Aquarius, at the other end, is drawn to groups, networks, causes, unconventional ideas and the collective, and Aquarius is listed as Rahu's own sign in the Parashari scheme many follow. The axis is read as a movement from personal stature towards shared purpose.
Purva Phalguni, ruled by Venus, gives the node a lighter, artistic and pleasure-loving tone, often with detachment inside comfort. The first pada of Uttara Phalguni, ruled by the Sun, brings duty and patronage back into focus. Since the nodes are classically hostile to the Sun, the Sun's own strength and its distance from the nodes are checked closely.
What it does not mean
Ketu in Leo does not mean a weak ego, failure in public life or a poor relationship with the father. It is not a prediction about career or status, and it does not decide anything about children, which the fifth house and Jupiter address. None of the common nodal dignity schemes makes Leo an exaltation or debilitation for Ketu. The Sun's condition and the houses involved carry the reading.
Questions it raises
- 01Is Ketu in Magha, Purva Phalguni or the first pada of Uttara Phalguni?
- 02Where is the Sun, and is it close to either node in longitude?
- 03Which houses do Leo and Aquarius occupy from the lagna?
- 04Does any planet sit with Ketu in Leo or with Rahu in Aquarius?
- 05Is a Ketu or Rahu dasha running, or a Sun sub-period within one?
In practice
In practice the Leo Ketu is read with the Sun, the houses of the axis, and any conjunctions, in roughly that order. A chart with Ketu in Magha in the tenth house tells a different story from one with Ketu in Purva Phalguni in the fourth, and the dasha decides when either is in the foreground. Lipta readings cite the placements and dates each sentence depends on.
