Ketu in Virgo
Virgo is Mercury's second sign and the sign of its exaltation: a dual earth sign of analysis, method, craft, service and attention to detail. Ketu here means Rahu in Pisces, since the lunar nodes always sit in opposite signs; the reader is looking at a Virgo and Pisces axis, not at a lone point. Ketu is the south node, without body or light, and in the Vedic tradition it signifies detachment, insight, sudden separation and the instinctive skill that seems to come from nowhere. It is also associated with the subtle and the precise, which suits this sign better than many expect.

What it traditionally signifies
Several later authorities list Virgo as a sign where Rahu feels at home and give Pisces to Ketu as its own sign; others keep to the older scheme in which Rahu owns Aquarius and Ketu Scorpio. On the first view Ketu in Virgo sits opposite its own sign, with Rahu taking Ketu's place; on the second, Virgo is neutral ground. Neither view makes Virgo an exaltation or a debilitation for Ketu. This is worth stating plainly because readers sometimes mix the lists without saying so.
The descriptive reading is fairly consistent across schools. Ketu in Virgo is associated with a sharp, almost intuitive precision: an ability to diagnose a problem, fix a detail, or master a technique without seeming to study it. Traditional commentators link it with healing crafts, calculation, editing and analysis. The other side is a dissatisfaction with one's own competence, an inner critic that is never quite quiet, or a tendency to serve others while neglecting one's own routine. Rahu in Pisces supplies the counter-pull: imagination, faith, the boundless and the visionary, and the common modern reading treats the axis as a movement from careful sorting towards trust and surrender.
Mercury's condition as dispositor is essential, since Ketu gives much of what its sign lord holds. A strong Mercury, especially in its own Virgo or well placed elsewhere, is read as focusing this Ketu. The nakshatras vary the tone: the last three padas of Uttara Phalguni, ruled by the Sun, stress duty and reliability; Hasta, ruled by the Moon, is the skilful hand; the first half of Chitra, ruled by Mars, adds design, structure and a love of form.
What it does not mean
Ketu in Virgo is not a prediction about health, illness or work, although Virgo is the sixth sign of the natural zodiac and readers sometimes speak loosely of those themes. It does not mean a person is anxious or critical by fate. Mercury, the sixth house and the sixth lord carry those questions, and a single node does not answer them.
Questions it raises
- 01Is Ketu in Uttara Phalguni, Hasta or Chitra?
- 02Where is Mercury, and is it combust, retrograde, exalted or with a node?
- 03Which houses do Virgo and Pisces occupy from the lagna?
- 04Which list of nodal own signs does the reader use, and does it change the interpretation?
- 05Is a Ketu, Rahu or Mercury period active?
In practice
In practice the Virgo Ketu is read alongside Mercury and the house position of both ends of the axis. A Virgo Ketu in the sixth house with Rahu in the twelfth is read very differently from the same sign in the tenth with Rahu in the fourth. Conjunctions and the running dasha then show which strand is active. Lipta readings cite each placement and date they rely on, so the basis of a sentence can be checked.
