Ketu in Scorpio
Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Mars, the sign of depth, secrecy, research, crisis and transformation. Ketu in Scorpio places Rahu in Taurus, since the two lunar nodes always stand in opposite signs; together they are read as a single axis. Ketu is the south node, a sensitive point rather than a body, and the tradition associates it with detachment, penetrating insight, sudden change and moksha. Of all twelve signs, Scorpio is the one most often named as congenial to Ketu, though the authorities do not agree on the reason or the strength of that claim.

What it traditionally signifies
In the dignity scheme found in many editions of the Parashari tradition, Ketu is exalted in Scorpio and Rahu in Taurus, and some of the same lists also give Scorpio to Ketu as a sign it co-rules with Mars. Another respected school places Ketu's exaltation in Sagittarius instead, and on that reading Scorpio is simply a Mars sign that suits a Mars-like node. Both views are found in good books; a careful reader states which one they are applying, and treats the label as a description of how freely the node expresses itself rather than as a promise.
The descriptive reading draws on the meeting of two similar natures. Ketu is said to act like Mars, and Scorpio is Mars's hidden, inward sign, so the combination is read as a capacity to go below the surface: research, investigation, healing work, the occult, psychology, or a steadiness in crisis that others lack. The person may move through endings with less disturbance than most and may sense what is unspoken. The harder face is secrecy, suspicion, or an attraction to intensity for its own sake. Rahu in Taurus pulls the other way, towards comfort, stability, beauty and the ordinary pleasures of keeping things, and the common modern reading treats the axis as learning to value the simple after mastering the deep.
The final pada of Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter, opens the sign with purpose and determination. Anuradha, ruled by Saturn, is devotion and loyal friendship, and gives Ketu a disciplined spiritual tone. Jyeshtha, ruled by Mercury, is the eldest, protective and sometimes burdened by responsibility; the end of Jyeshtha is a gandanta junction with Sagittarius.
What it does not mean
Even in the school that exalts it here, Ketu in Scorpio does not promise occult powers, a long life, sudden wealth or protection from hardship. Exaltation describes the node's ease of expression, not the ease of a life. Nor does Scorpio's association with the eighth house of the natural zodiac make this a statement about health, accidents or inheritance; those are read from the actual eighth house and its lord.
Questions it raises
- 01Which nodal dignity scheme is the reader using, and do they say so?
- 02Is Ketu in Vishakha, Anuradha or Jyeshtha, and near the gandanta degree at the end of the sign?
- 03Where is Mars, the sign lord, and is it strong?
- 04Which houses do Scorpio and Taurus occupy from the lagna?
- 05Is a Ketu, Rahu or Mars period running?
In practice
In practice the Scorpio Ketu is read with Mars, the houses of the axis, and any planet sitting with either node; the dignity label is a modifier, not the conclusion. For a Cancer lagna the axis runs across the fifth and eleventh houses, for an Aries lagna across the eighth and second, and the readings follow the houses. Lipta readings cite the placements and dates each sentence rests on.
