Ketu in the 6th House
The sixth house is the sixth sign from the lagna, taken whole in the whole-sign houses Lipta uses. It governs work, health and rivals: daily labour and service, routines, debts, disputes, competitors, obstacles and the effort needed to overcome them. It is both a dusthana, one of the three difficult houses (6, 8 and 12), and an upachaya, a house of growth where hard planets are said to improve over time. Ketu is the Moon's south node, a point rather than a body, linked with detachment, insight and separation. With Ketu in the sixth, Rahu is always in the twelfth, so this is an axis between daily struggle and release.

What it traditionally signifies
The sixth house is one of the places classical and later authors most consistently name as favourable for the nodes, alongside the third and eleventh. A separating, cutting influence in the house of enemies and obstacles is read as an ability to cut through them. Ketu in the sixth is therefore traditionally described as a person who handles opposition calmly, is not easily drawn into feuds, and tends to outlast rather than outfight competitors. Some texts link the placement with skill in service professions, analysis, precise technical work, or the healing arts, and with a detached, practical attitude to routine.
The harder face is a tendency to neglect daily routines, an indifference to small but necessary maintenance, or a habit of carrying others' problems without complaint until they become one's own. Rahu in the twelfth then pulls towards the far and the hidden: foreign lands, retreat, spiritual practice, sleep and dreams, and expenses that are hard to see coming. The common modern reading treats the axis as a movement from solving concrete problems towards letting go of what cannot be solved.
The sign on the sixth and the condition of its lord are the first refinements, since Ketu gives much of what its dispositor holds. Mars and Saturn, natural significators of conflict and of labour, are also checked. On aspects, readers who give the nodes the fifth, seventh and ninth aspects would place a sixth-house Ketu's influence on the tenth, twelfth and second houses; others give no nodal aspects, and the point remains disputed.
What it does not mean
Ketu in the sixth house is not a forecast about illness, disease or any medical matter, even though the sixth is a house of health in classical terms; a single node never decides that, and health questions belong with a qualified professional. It does not mean a person will win every dispute or never face rivals. Rahu in the twelfth is not a prediction of loss, foreign residence or hospitalisation.
Questions it raises
- 01Which sign is on the sixth house, and where is the sixth lord?
- 02Is any planet sitting with Ketu in the sixth or with Rahu in the twelfth?
- 03What is the condition of Mars and Saturn in this chart?
- 04How is the twelfth lord placed, given Rahu's position in its house?
- 05Is a Ketu or Rahu period running, or the sixth lord's period?
In practice
In practice a sixth-house Ketu is read with the sixth lord, then the twelfth-house Rahu is weighed against the twelfth lord, and both are set beside the lagna lord to see how much strength the person brings to the house of effort. The upachaya principle suggests the placement shows its better side with time, and the dasha marks when the axis is active. Lipta readings cite those placements and dates, so each sentence can be checked.
