Ketu in the 2nd House
The second house is the sign just after the lagna, taken whole under the whole-sign houses Lipta uses. It governs wealth, family and speech: what a person accumulates and holds, the household and lineage they come from, food, the face and the voice, and the values they were raised with. It is one of the two maraka houses, a technical category used in longevity analysis. Ketu, the south lunar node, is a point without body or light, linked with detachment, insight and release. With Ketu in the second, Rahu is always in the eighth, so the reading is of an axis between one's own resources and what is shared, hidden or inherited.

What it traditionally signifies
The classical portrait of Ketu in the second house centres on speech and family. Commentators describe a person whose words are few, blunt or unusual, who may speak with surprising directness, or who has an interest in sacred texts, chanting, or languages other than the one they grew up with. Ties to the family of birth may be loose or unconventional, and the inherited family script may be held at a distance. Food habits are often described as simple or particular. The more constructive reading is of someone who is not ruled by possessions, who can live on less, and whose values are personally examined rather than borrowed.
The harder face, in the older texts, is an uneven relationship with saving, a tendency to speak before weighing the effect of words, or a feeling of standing outside the family circle. Rahu in the eighth then pulls towards the hidden: research, other people's money, inheritance, insurance, crisis and transformation. The common modern reading treats the axis as a move from what one already holds towards what can only be reached through depth or shared resources. These are tendencies of emphasis, not events.
The sign on the second house and the condition of its lord carry much of the outcome. A second-house Ketu in a sign whose lord is strong, for example, is read as steadier than one whose lord is weak or afflicted. The second is also the house of the right eye and the face in classical anatomy, but a careful reader leaves physical matters to the full chart and never draws a health conclusion from a node alone.
What it does not mean
Ketu in the second house does not mean poverty, a broken family, harsh speech or financial loss, and it is not a forecast about money at all. Wealth is read from the second and eleventh houses, their lords, Jupiter and the dasha, together. The maraka label is a longevity category and says nothing about family life. Rahu in the eighth is not a forecast of upheaval; it describes an interest in depth.
Questions it raises
- 01Which sign is on the second house, and where is its lord?
- 02Is any planet sitting with Ketu in the second or with Rahu in the eighth?
- 03What is the condition of the eleventh house and Jupiter, the other main indicators of resources?
- 04Is the birth time reliable enough to be sure Ketu is in the second and not the first or third?
- 05Is a Ketu or Rahu period, or the second lord's period, running now?
In practice
In practice a second-house Ketu is read with the second lord, the eleventh house and Jupiter, and then the eighth-house Rahu is weighed against the eighth lord. The dasha decides which years bring the axis forward. Lipta readings cite those placements and dates, so a sentence about speech or family can be traced to what produced it.
