Rahu in Sagittarius
Sagittarius is Jupiter's sign of teachers, law, dharma, long journeys and higher learning, and Rahu is the node most associated with the foreign, the unorthodox and the newly acquired. Put together, the tradition reads a hunger for meaning that does not stay within the inherited one. Rahu, the north lunar node, is a point rather than a planet; it moves backwards and spends about a year and a half in each sign. Ketu, the south node, is always opposite, so Rahu in Sagittarius goes with Ketu in Gemini.

What it traditionally signifies
With Jupiter as dispositor, a Sagittarius Rahu is traditionally read as a strong pull towards philosophies, teachers, cultures or systems of thought from outside one's own background. Modern readings connect it with higher education abroad, publishing, law, international work, religious or ideological movements, and the role of an adviser or guide. At its most constructive, this placement widens a person's horizon and gives the energy to bring new ideas home. At its less settled, it describes zeal that outruns understanding, attraction to gurus or doctrines without enough scrutiny, or a restless swapping of one belief for another.
The nakshatras each change the reading. Mula, ruled by Ketu, is the root that is pulled up to be examined, and Rahu here is read as a drive to get to the bottom of things, sometimes by uprooting them. Purva Ashadha, ruled by Venus, is the nakshatra of invincible conviction, adding persuasion and pride. The first pada of Uttara Ashadha, ruled by the Sun, brings a steadier, principled ambition.
Ketu in Gemini at the far end is read as an ease with information, talk and cleverness that the person may hold lightly or distrust. The axis is commonly described as a move from collecting facts towards seeking meaning, with the reminder that meaning without facts drifts. On dignity, authorities differ: in the scheme that exalts Rahu in Gemini, Sagittarius is Rahu's debilitation; in the scheme that exalts it in Taurus, Sagittarius carries no special status. A conjunction of Rahu with Jupiter is sometimes given a dramatic name, but it is read in context like any other combination.
What it does not mean
Rahu in Sagittarius does not make anyone faithless or a follower of false teachers, and it says nothing on its own about the father, travel abroad, higher study or a career. It is shared by everyone born across the same eighteen months, so it describes a theme rather than a person until the house and Jupiter are read. Nor does a debilitation label, where it is used, decide the outcome; Jupiter's condition carries more weight.
Questions it raises
- 01Which house is Sagittarius for this lagna, and where is Ketu in Gemini?
- 02Is Jupiter, the dispositor, strong, and does it aspect or join Rahu?
- 03Is Rahu in Mula, Purva Ashadha or Uttara Ashadha?
- 04Which dignity scheme is being applied to the nodes?
- 05Is a Rahu or Jupiter dasha running now?
In practice
Jupiter decides much of the tone here, so its sign, house and aspects are read right after the house of Rahu. The Gemini house holding Ketu is taken at the same time. If Rahu and Jupiter are together, the reader looks at which is stronger and which nakshatra each occupies rather than reaching for a label. The dasha then shows when the theme is live. Lipta readings cite these placements and their dates, so each judgement is traceable.
