Rahu in Aries
Rahu is not a body at all but a point: the north lunar node, where the Moon's path crosses the ecliptic on its way north. Vedic tradition still counts it among the nine grahas and reads it as appetite, ambition, the unfamiliar and the foreign, the pull towards what one does not yet have. Rahu moves backwards through the zodiac and spends roughly eighteen months in each sign, so everyone born in that stretch shares a Rahu in Aries; the house it occupies in your chart is what makes it personal. Ketu, the south node, always sits exactly opposite, so Rahu in Aries means Ketu in Libra.

What it traditionally signifies
Aries is a movable fire sign ruled by Mars, and the nodes are traditionally said to give the results of the lord of the sign they occupy. A Rahu in Aries is therefore read through Mars: a hunger to start things, to compete, to be first, to act before the plan is quite finished. Modern readings describe restless initiative, an attraction to pioneering, technical or physically demanding fields, and a strong wish to be seen as independent. The nakshatra adds colour. Ashwini, ruled by Ketu, gives speed and a rescuer's impulse; Bharani, ruled by Venus, brings intensity and the weight of seeing things through; the first pada of Krittika, ruled by the Sun, adds sharpness and a taste for authority.
The other face of the same drive is impatience, a habit of picking contests that were not chosen carefully, and a feeling that nothing achieved is ever quite enough. Rahu magnifies what it touches, and a Mars sign gives it plenty of heat to work with. At the opposite end, Ketu in Libra is read as an area where the person already knows, almost too well, how to compromise and accommodate others. The axis is often described as a movement away from living through partnership and towards learning to act on one's own account; neither end is read without the other.
On dignity the authorities differ. Some versions of Parashara's text and many modern astrologers place Rahu's exaltation in Taurus, others in Gemini, and some name Aquarius or Virgo as signs where it is at home. None of the common schemes gives Aries any special status for Rahu, so the reading rests mainly on Mars, the house and any planet sharing the sign.
What it does not mean
Rahu in Aries does not make a person aggressive or reckless, and it says nothing by itself about marriage, money, work or health. A placement shared by everyone born across a year and a half cannot carry a personal verdict. Nor is it a mark of misfortune: the tradition treats the nodes as amplifiers and as signs of where attention gathers, and the long-standing view that Rahu does well in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses shows how productive the same node can be read as.
Questions it raises
- 01Which house does Rahu occupy from the lagna, and which house holds Ketu in Libra opposite it?
- 02Where is Mars, the sign lord, and is it strong, weak or pressed by other planets?
- 03Is Rahu in Ashwini, Bharani or the first pada of Krittika, and which planet rules that nakshatra?
- 04Does Rahu sit with the Sun, the Moon or Mars, which changes the reading considerably?
- 05Is a Rahu mahadasha or antardasha running now?
In practice
A careful reader starts with the house, because that is where an eighteen-month placement becomes individual, and then reads Mars as the planet that carries Rahu's results. The Ketu in Libra end is read in the same breath, since the two houses on the axis tell one story of what is reached for and what is let go. In common usage Rahu is given the 5th, 7th and 9th aspects, though opinions differ and some astrologers give the nodes no aspects at all. The dasha running now shows when the axis comes forward. Lipta readings cite these placements and dates, so you can see what each line rests on.
