Venus in Sagittarius
Venus in Sagittarius places the planet of pleasure and partnership in the sign of the teacher. In Vedic tradition Venus governs attraction, taste, comfort, the arts and the whole field of relating; it is the karaka of the seventh house and, in a man's chart, the traditional significator of the wife. Sagittarius belongs to Jupiter, and the two are an odd pair: the friendship tables do not count them as allies, though both are gurus in the old stories.

What it traditionally signifies
Sagittarius is a dual fire sign ruled by Jupiter, and Venus here is read as affection shaped by belief. The texts describe a liking for learning, travel, philosophy and distant places; a partner is chosen for shared values and for what can be learnt together, and respect comes before charm. There is warmth, honesty and openness.
The other face is that principle can crowd out tenderness. Fire wants movement, and the dual sign gives two directions at once, so attachments may be enthusiastic at the start and restless later. The ideal can be loved more than the person, and affection may arrive with instruction attached.
The nakshatra matters more here than in most signs, because Purva Ashadha, the middle portion, is Venus's own nakshatra, and a Venus placed there is read as unusually at ease. Mula, ruled by Ketu, brings a searching, uprooting quality; Uttara Ashadha, ruled by the Sun, gives dignity and duty. The house then directs it: in the ninth, Sagittarius's own house, belief, teachers and journeys enjoyed; in the seventh, a partnership built on shared conviction.
What it does not mean
Venus in Sagittarius does not predict a foreign marriage, a second marriage or a partner who teaches, though all three recur in popular summaries. It is not a verdict on charm or on money, and the honesty the sign is credited with is a tendency, not a character reference. It reads differently by house, and differently when Jupiter, the dispositor, is strong or weak.
Questions it raises
- 01Which house does Venus occupy, and where is Jupiter, its dispositor?
- 02Is Venus in Mula, Purva Ashadha or Uttara Ashadha?
- 03Does Saturn, Mars or Rahu aspect Venus, and is it combust or retrograde?
- 04Is Venus stronger or weaker in the navamsa?
- 05Is the Venus mahadasha running, and where does Jupiter's period fall?
In practice
In practice a reader looks first at Jupiter, because a Venus in Jupiter's sign borrows much of its tone from Jupiter's condition, then at the degree and the house. A Venus in Purva Ashadha in a kendra can be described warmly; one in Mula in the eighth with Rahu needs a more careful sentence. Envisstack readings cite each placement and date behind a reading, so the sentence can be traced to the chart.
