Rahu in Pisces
Pisces closes the zodiac. It is the sign of endings, dissolving boundaries, devotion, imagination and the far shore, and Rahu, the node of appetite, is an unusual visitor there: a hunger directed at something that cannot be held. The north lunar node is a calculated point, not a planet; it moves backwards through the signs, which is why Rahu enters Pisces from Aries rather than leaving it, and it stays about eighteen months. Ketu, the south node, is always exactly opposite, here in Virgo.

What it traditionally signifies
Pisces is a dual water sign ruled by Jupiter. Rahu in Pisces is traditionally read as a longing for transcendence, beauty or escape: spiritual practice, music, film, poetry, healing, charitable work, distant places and retreats. Modern readings describe a vivid imagination, sensitivity to atmosphere and other people's moods, and an attraction to the mystical or the foreign. Jupiter's condition, as dispositor, decides much of how this works: a strong Jupiter gives the longing a frame of meaning and discipline; a weak or afflicted one leaves it more diffuse.
The less settled face of the same placement is confusion between ideal and real, a pull towards escapism, and a vulnerability to being swept along by persuasive people or causes. The nakshatras sort these themes. The last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, ruled by Jupiter, brings intensity and renunciation. Uttara Bhadrapada, ruled by Saturn, is the deep, steady water; Rahu here is read as a wish for wisdom gained slowly and kept quietly. Revati, ruled by Mercury, the last nakshatra of all, is linked with gentle guidance, journeys and the safe completion of a passage.
Ketu in Virgo at the other end is read as an inborn competence with order, method and analysis, which the person may hold lightly or find dry. The axis is often described as a move from sorting and fixing towards trusting and letting go, with the reminder that faith still needs some method. On dignity the authorities differ; the common schemes give Rahu no special status in Pisces, though some modern writers assign Pisces partly to Ketu, so Rahu here sits in the sign of its partner.
What it does not mean
Rahu in Pisces does not mean a person is lost, deceived or destined for a spiritual life, and it does not foretell foreign residence, expenses or any health matter. The Pisces themes of retreat and release are traditional significations of the sign, not events waiting to happen. Everyone born in the same eighteen months shares this placement; for one chart it depends on the house, Jupiter and the running dasha.
Questions it raises
- 01Which house is Pisces for this lagna, and which house holds Ketu in Virgo?
- 02Is Jupiter, the dispositor, strong, and does it aspect Rahu?
- 03Is Rahu in Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati?
- 04Is Rahu joined by Venus, which is exalted in Pisces, or by Mercury, which is debilitated there?
- 05Is a Rahu or Jupiter period running?
In practice
A careful reader starts with the house of Rahu and the Virgo house of Ketu, then turns to Jupiter, whose strength frames the whole axis. Conjunctions in Pisces are weighed next, since Venus and Mercury change the picture in opposite directions. Finally the dasha shows when the axis is likely to be emphasised. Lipta readings cite each placement and date used, so the reasoning can be followed and questioned.
