Ketu in Pisces
Pisces, the last of the twelve signs, is Jupiter's dual water sign: surrender, compassion, imagination, retreat and the dissolving of boundaries. Venus is exalted here and Mercury debilitated. With Ketu in Pisces, Rahu is in Virgo, the opposite sign, and the two lunar nodes are read as one axis between the boundless and the precise. Ketu is the south node, a point and not a body, called the moksha karaka in the tradition, the significator of final release. Placing the node of release in the sign of endings is a combination the texts read with particular attention.

What it traditionally signifies
Some later authorities give Pisces to Ketu as its own sign, pairing it with Virgo for Rahu; the older Parashari lists instead give Ketu Scorpio and Rahu Aquarius. Neither school treats Pisces as an exaltation or debilitation for Ketu. On the first view this is one of Ketu's most comfortable signs, and even on the second, Jupiter's rulership is generally read as a benign setting for a node concerned with letting go.
The descriptive picture is of a deeply intuitive, inward and compassionate temperament. Spiritual practice, contemplation, music, poetry and service to those in need may come naturally, as if remembered rather than learned. The person may sense moods and undercurrents easily and may need solitude to recover from them. The strong face is a gentle wisdom that holds little and gives freely. The less comfortable face is vagueness, escape from practical demands, or difficulty drawing boundaries. Rahu in Virgo then pulls towards the practical: routine, analysis, health of the daily life, useful work and the discipline of detail. The common modern reading treats the axis as bringing a spiritual nature down into everyday service.
The last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, ruled by Jupiter, carries an intense, ascetic streak. Uttara Bhadrapada, ruled by Saturn, is the deep and steady one, linked with patience and endurance in contemplation. Revati, ruled by Mercury, is the final nakshatra, the shepherd who guides travellers home; its end is the gandanta junction with Aries, and Ketu near that point is noted as a sensitive degree where one cycle closes and another begins. Jupiter's condition, as sign lord, carries much of the outcome.
What it does not mean
Ketu in Pisces does not mean a person is meant to renounce the world, live abroad, or withdraw from relationships, and it is not a forecast about expenses or losses, even though Pisces is the twelfth sign of the natural zodiac. Those themes belong to the actual twelfth house and its lord in a particular chart. Nor is a spiritual inclination a promise of insight; it is a disposition the rest of the chart may support or not.
Questions it raises
- 01Does the reader use a list that gives Pisces to Ketu as its own sign, and do they say so?
- 02Is Ketu in Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati, and close to the end of the sign?
- 03Where is Jupiter, the sign lord, and is it strong?
- 04Which houses do Pisces and Virgo occupy from the lagna?
- 05Is Venus or Mercury in Pisces with Ketu, and is a Ketu or Rahu period running?
In practice
In practice the Pisces Ketu is read with Jupiter, the houses of the axis, and any planet sitting with either node, and is then timed by the dasha. For a Virgo lagna the axis runs across the seventh and first houses, for a Sagittarius lagna across the fourth and tenth, and for a Pisces lagna it sits in the first house itself. Lipta readings cite each placement and date they rely on, so the basis of a sentence is always visible.
