Rahu in the 7th House
The seventh house is the sign directly opposite the lagna, setting in the west as the first house rises in the east, and it is the house of the other: spouse and committed partners, business partnerships, contracts, open dealings with the public. It is a kendra, and in the technical study of longevity it is also a maraka house, a label with no bearing on married life. In whole-sign houses it is the sign six steps from the lagna, and its certainty depends on the birth time. Rahu, the north lunar node, is a point read as desire and the reach for the unfamiliar. With Rahu in the seventh, Ketu sits on the lagna itself.

What it traditionally signifies
In the seventh, Rahu's hunger is directed at relationship. The tradition commonly reads it as strong attraction to people who are different in some way: of another culture, background, language or outlook, or partners who bring the person into an unfamiliar world. Modern readers also describe a talent for dealing with the public, trade, negotiation and international business, since the seventh governs all forms of open exchange with others. Partnerships are often read as central and energising, a place where the person grows by meeting what they are not.
The more uneasy face is idealisation: wanting from a partner more than one person can give, or finding that the reality of a relationship does not match the picture. Some texts also describe partnerships with unconventional elements. A careful reader keeps these as descriptions of tone, and checks Venus, the seventh lord and the navamsha before saying anything at all about partnership.
Ketu on the lagna is the other half of this picture. It is read as a person somewhat detached from their own image, introspective, perhaps unsure how they come across, with the axis drawing their attention outward towards others. The two ends describe one learning: holding a clear sense of self while meeting another fully. In the common usage that gives the nodes the 5th, 7th and 9th aspects, Rahu here aspects the eleventh, first and third houses; opinions on node aspects differ.
What it does not mean
Rahu in the seventh house is not a verdict on marriage. It does not decide whether, when or whom anyone marries, and it does not predict separation, delay, deception or an unhappy partnership. A single node placement on the partnership axis never settles such questions, and a careful astrologer does not use it to recommend delaying or hurrying any decision. The maraka label belongs to a longevity method and says nothing about a spouse.
Questions it raises
- 01Which sign is the seventh house, and where is its lord?
- 02How strong is Venus, the natural significator of partnership?
- 03What does the navamsha show about the seventh house and its lord?
- 04How is the lagna lord placed, given Ketu in the first?
- 05Is a Rahu, Ketu or seventh-lord period running?
In practice
A seventh-house Rahu is read together with Venus, the seventh lord and the navamsha, and Ketu on the lagna is read with the lagna lord at the same time. Only then is the running dasha brought in to show which years emphasise partnership. Nothing about marriage is ever concluded from the node alone. Lipta readings cite these placements and dates, so each line can be checked against the chart.
