Kundli milan
Kundli milan compares two birth charts the way families in India have done for generations. The usual method, Ashtakoota, scores eight factors from where the Moon was at each birth, for a total of 36 gunas.
A total on its own says little. This tool shows every koota in plain words, checks Mangal dosha for both of you with the classical cancellations, and tells you when Nadi or Bhakoot is set aside by tradition.
How the 36 gunas add up
Eight kootas, each worth a little more than the one before. All eight come from where the Moon was when each of you was born.
| Koota | What it looks at | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | Outlook and the way each of you works | 1 |
| Vashya | Mutual pull, and who leads when | 2 |
| Tara | Wellbeing and timing, by counting the birth stars | 3 |
| Yoni | Physical and instinctive comfort | 4 |
| Graha Maitri | Friendship of the Moon-sign lords: mental rapport | 5 |
| Gana | Temperament: deva, manushya or rakshasa | 6 |
| Bhakoot | Distance between the Moon signs: family life and money | 7 |
| Nadi | Constitution; the heaviest single koota | 8 |
Mangal dosha, calmly
Mangal dosha means Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the chart. That is six houses out of twelve, so about half of everyone has it.
Classical texts also list when it is cancelled: both partners having it, Mars in its own sign or exalted, Jupiter joining or aspecting Mars, and several sign and house pairings. The tool checks these and names the one that applies. It is a reason to look closer, never a verdict.
